I may like the acoustic more than the original. The band captures the character and magic of the original release better here, what with the help of a decade of gained knowledge and experience with the songs. "Pig" in particular shines this way; the narrative of addiction and healing plays out across both songs, ultimately ending in a kind of earned, intimate peace as the horns and strings lull the listener into what might be the album's most poignant, beautiful, and vulnerable moment.

Years ago I worked at a beachfront condo, working nights by myself. One night we had a bunch of ice cream that had to be eaten. I went on the rooftop and ate ice cream in the windy sea air surrounded by the sounds of the ocean in the pitch black of night. This album somehow transports me there. Yvette's music is singular in that it can capture such vivid emotions.
